As practical as it is chic, there should be something velvet in your closet! It’s rich, it’s luxe, it’s a secret styling tip for upgrading an ordinary outfit to an elevated look. I love that you can have fun and wear bold colors, or play with it on shoes, bags, and coats! Don’t let the naysayers trick you into thinking it’s only for the colder months or eveningwear either—velvet or velour can be appropriate year-round (ok, maybe not in 90-degree weather with 90% humidity). When styled right, it totally works! If you wear a shorter velour dress when it’s warm out, just pair it with strappy sandals and a natural makeup look. The Fall is definitely the best opportunity to start playing with velvet in jackets and bags – so stay tuned for how I mix it in this season!
I wore this velvet set by Retrofete the other night in LA, and I’m obsessed with it! If you’re intimidated by a full-on velvet set look, then start by incorporating it in smaller doses like a velvet loafer, blazer, or handbag. When you would normally wear a leather or jean jacket, swap it out for a velvet blazer and pair it with a tee and jeans for a relaxed look. Or, when you need to take your LBD to the next level, add a velvet high heel! You might also remember my ESPYs look, where I rocked this Alexandre Vauthier mini. I may or may not have made a few best dressed lists with that number!
I pulled some of my favorite velvet/velour pieces that are out right now for you guys to browse below! Happy shopping!
