When it comes to skincare, we spend a lot of time (and money) carefully curating what to put on our faces, but, in each and every way, skincare also starts from within. Have you thought about your skin food diet lately?
When it comes to our skin, what we eat has a direct impact on our complexions. When we’re not nourishing our bodies with superfoods, processed foods high in sugar and fat can show up as dull skin, dryness (or oiliness) and even dark circles under our eyes–not to mention as unwanted blemishes. Knowledge is power, and because your schedule is so busy these days, I thought I would share six of the best foods I lean on for radiant skin! And remember, when it comes to your skin health, it’s not about cutting everything out, it’s about adding in others to enrich your radiance 🙂
Kale
By now you’ve heard of Hyaluronic acid–it’s impossible to miss. Produced by and for our own bodies, this ingredient is also used in SO many serums and moisturizers today. It’s one of the reasons I LOVE my new Celery Green Cream Moisturizer. And, kale is the star of so many diets but for good reason. It’s high in fiber, protein and hyaluronic acid! Personally, I love dressing it with olive oil or just lemon juice and eating as a snack on the go.
Cinnamon
If your skin is on the oilier side, cinnamon is a great spice to stimulate circulation, blood flow that brings nutrients directly to the skin. Some studies have even shown that it can balance sugar levels, especially if you’ve had some extra sugar in your diet. I love adding cinnamon to my coffee or tea and even in smoothies!
Citrus Fruits
To actually radiate from the inside out, oranges, grapefruits, lemons and citrus fruits should be your go-to snack. Vitamin C is a great topical to boost radiance and help your skin glow, but eating citrus can also work to calm inflammation and brighten your complexion as well. Lemons also help alkalize and balance our bodies’ pH! My day usually doesn’t start unless I’ve had my Bulletproof Coffee but I know that’s super acidic, and, when our bodies’ pH is off, our skin can become sensitive and dry.
Avocado
Another darling in the superfood world, avocados are amazing for the skin. They help keep it looking firm, dewy and reduce redness. Essentially they’re a natural moisturizer, keeping our complexions hydrated!
Chia Seeds
I love to add chia seeds on top of smoothie bowls or sprinkle them into my morning routine because they’re one of the richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s help promote healthy skin cell function and new collagen production to keep our skin youthful 🙂
Dark Orange or Red Veggies
Sweet potatoes, red bell peppers and squash are pigmented due to beta-carotene, which is known for its antioxidant properties. Our bodies use beta-carotene to help with cell production/turnover so essentially this keeps our skin surface smooth!
These are just a few superfoods that I love to make sure I keep rotating through my diet so my skin stay extra radiant. Are there any foods that you love to keep your skin happy and healthy?
XOXO,
share.
