Now that the warm weather is setting in, laying by the pool or taking trips to the beach (while social distancing) is finally becoming a reality! There’s nothing more relaxing for me than reading a good book and laying outside soaking up the Vitamin D. But, as much as I love laying out in the sun, I’ve always been cautious about what it does to my skin. This means finding sunscreen and sun protection products that work and making sure I never forget to reapply.
Over time, I’ve found some of my favorite products that have become holy grails. All of these products are staples in my beach bag, and I never leave the house without them. Keep scrolling for the 3 products you need for a fun (and safe) day in the sun!
#1 SPF
This is the number one rule, non-negotiable! There are so many different kinds of sunscreen on the market these days, it’s hard to decipher the stuff that actually works. I like to use separate products for my face, body and lips! Yes, lips. There is nothing worse than a lip sunburn and there are so many different ones out there with SPF there is no excuse, I love the Coola Liplux! For body and face sunscreen, I alternate between my ride-or-die Volition Beauty Prismatic Luminizing Shield and Supergoop!. Both of these brands are “Clean At Sephora,” which makes me feel extra good about putting it on my face!
#2 LEAVE IN CONDITIONER
There is actually nothing worse than tangled hair after the beach or pool! Plus, if you have blonde hair—especially if it’s dyed—this tip is for you. I’ve learned the hard way after many long showers detangling my dry, brittle hair after a day in the sun. Preparing with leave in conditioner before getting in the water will keep your hair silky soft! It’s almost like a body butter and protects it with the moisture it needs. I love SunBum’s leave in conditioner. It works so well and smells like a dream!
#3 AFTER SUN LOTION
I love this stuff especially after getting a tan! Sunbum’s Cool Down lotion is another one of my favorites. It keeps your skin moisturized and soothes sunburns in case you forgot to reapply sunscreen (pro tip: set a timer on your phone so you never forget!). The sun sucks a lot out of your body especially if you’re sitting outside all day so it’s always good to moisturize and rehydrate afterwards!
