The self care buzz is real. We see it often portrayed as inspirational posts and it has almost become synonymous with indulgence, which does not necessarily encapsulate what it really means to look after yourself. The ways in which self care can be defined are vast and change from day to day. More often than not, they don’t involve a bath bomb or retail therapy–don’t get me wrong, those are great ways to look after yourself too! But, one thing does remain consistent, it is now more important than ever to take moments to focus on our own mental, physical and emotional health. And, if you’re constantly on the go, checking in with yourself is super important. Keep scrolling for four effortless rituals that I love to rely on to practice self care on the go.
Be Physically Present
I always feel my best, physically and mentally, when I’m able to dedicate at least one hour of the day to some sort of activity–30 minutes even. I’ve learned that small bursts of movement throughout my day engender the amazing feelings and tangible benefits that physical activity can have on the body and mind. Read more here on my five inspired ways to move through the day.
Set Intentions
I like to take at least 15-20 minutes to regroup, check in with myself, set an intention and lay out what I want to accomplish or have accomplished each day. If I’m on the go, I’ll open up my Note app and just start writing! Processing and putting my thoughts somewhere allows me to make room and gain clarity.
Mindful Screen Time
I believe the basis for self care resides in our ability to switch off and be present. So, I set aside some time (mostly in the mornings) to be mindful without screen time. This is the time where I can sit and have my morning lemon water or coffee without continually scrolling and instantly start my day in a state of calm.
Do You
If I find myself in back-to-back meetings or weighed down after a really long day, I try to forget about all my responsibilities (grocery shopping, meal prep, cleaning, and on) and go do something for myself. That could be a new class at the gym or just putting on a killer playlist so you can have your own dance party!
There’s no such thing as getting self care wrong and don’t forget that only you know what self care means for you! Give yourself a little extra love today, you deserve it and let me know how you checked in with yourself below!
XOXO,
