I think we can safely say we’re finally nearing a time when “normal” weddings are back in sight! Vaccinated groups of people are celebrating safely already, and that makes me SO happy. Weddings are always such a fun time to catch up with friends and family, and I can’t wait to fold them back into my social calendar. I don’t care if I have eight weddings this summer that require eight different dresses and are in eight different cities. LOVE IS IN THE AIR. Who thought we’d ever say that?!
So, in anticipation of summer celebrations, I’ve started to peruse the internet for this year’s best wedding guest dress styles. I’m rounding up my favorite looks for all dress codes—Black tie, formal, cocktail, semi-formal, and tropical/destination. If you’re looking for in between events, I definitely recommend Shopbop for all of your wedding guest dress needs.
1. Black Tie
Black tie weddings call for formal floor-length gowns, and there’s really no exception to that rule! If the invite says black tie, make sure your gown touches the floor. This One by Gilner Ferrar ruffle shoulder metallic dress is an absolute dream, plus it doesn’t break the bank like you think a black tie dress would. It’s on mega sale, so get it while you can.
2. Formal
Formal weddings are slightly more flexible than black tie—and experts say it’s acceptable to wear a long dress that shows a bit of ankle. I’m LOVING this Rejina Pyo halter neck dress with its unique front strap that acts as an accessory and the chic plunging back.
3. Cocktail
This is where things start to get a little fun, and many more options come into play. According to Brides, guests attending a cocktail attire wedding can opt for tea-length, knee-length, or midi dress styles. I’m into this satin Cinq a Sept number that gets a little playful with the feather band that dons the neckline.
4. Festive
When you get an invite that says “Festive attire,” you might be at a loss for what to do. It will definitely require a Google search, but once you get a little direction, you’ll be golden. Basically, festive means playful—bold colors, bold accessories, and just overall BOLD looks. This dress code is the couple signaling to you: have fun with it! When I see playful, I immediately think Zimmerman. I’m obsessed with the bold colors of this Zimmerman knee-length floral dress, and the cut-outs make it even more funky.
5. Topical/Destination
I’m manifesting all of the tropical/destination wedding vibes right now. This dress code allows for the most flexibility and comfort. You’ll likely be on the beach, with no shoes, in a balmy locale. So, opt for something floral, flowy, and breathable! I love LoveShackFancy for anything vacation, and this cute pink dress is no exception.
