Summer is quickly approaching…T-13 days, to be exact! Every year, right around this time, I get this urge (no doubt due to the countless headlines I scroll through every day) to “get summer ready.” It’s like, for some reason, health, wellness, and self-care suddenly become mainstream and top of everyone’s mind. And, although I try to keep all of these principles in-check year round, I’m human. I fall off the bandwagon and eat pizza at 3:00 PM on a Monday. It happens! So, to be honest, these ubiquitous, anything-but-subliminal messages to heed the weather and “ready yourself” for the impending summer months are actually welcomed. They give me a chance to stop, reevaluate, and make necessary changes. Whether it be amping up my workout routine, or drinking lots of lemon water, these small tweaks in my routine help me be more mindful about my daily habits and allow me to practice a little self-care!
As such, I’ve created a list of four things I’m adding into my routine before the clock strikes June 21. I’ve written before that giving myself hard deadlines is a strategy I employ very frequently in life and business (and previously in gymnastics), and this is no different. Doing this sets a fire to my feet and holds me accountable (not to mention writing it down here puts it out to the world), no matter how small the goal or change I seek to implement.
Here’s what I’m doing…
- Lemon Water: This is a staple in my morning routine but I recently started drinking it before I go to bed. I have seen a huge difference in my skin, as well as my energy levels in the morning! I want to ensure that this is a consistent practice for me, almost like bookends to my day.
- Workouts: I have been trying to workout at least three times a week with a mix of cardio and strength training. Although I basically live on a plane, I luckily have some amazing trainers that hold me accountable and kick my butt when we’re able to workout together (shout out to: Lynx Fitness Club in Boston, Joe Holder in NYC, and Chase Weber in LA). Working out, for me, is so important for my mental state; it centers me and, because I usually hit the gym first thing in the morning, kicks off my day with a healthy start. There’s no reason why I can’t get in a sweat three times a week (peep my hotel room workout here), so I’m holding myself to that.
- Dry Brushing: This is something I started a few months ago (doing it sporadically here and there) and although it does take some time, the benefits are totally worth it. I find that keeping the brush in the shower has made it easier for me to commit to on a daily basis.
- Self-Tanner: Because self-care is not something to be ashamed of! I always feel better about myself when I’ve been in the sun (with TONS OF SUNSCREEN), but, most of the time, I don’t have time to lay on the beach. My favorite way to practice safe sun is to use a little self-tanner here and there. With a lot of great options on the market these days (read: no more orange hands and feet), I like to indulge in this fun ritual every two weeks. Shout out to the little things that just make you sooooo happy 😂
