As the Fall season approaches and we head into the latter part of 2022, I wanted to check in with you all (and myself) and make sure we finish the year as strong and positive as we entered it. Sharing three mantras that really help me shift focus when I’m feeling negative, and that will hopefully carry us into the end of 2022 leaving it better than we started!
Don’t Quit on a Bad Day
If you have followed me for awhile, you know I live by this phrase. I lived by it throughout training for the Olympics and carried it with me ever since. Whatever it is you’re doing in life, don’t give up when you are facing adversity. The feelings of disappointment and struggle are most prevalent on days that present you with trial, so I always urge people to push through those days, and reevaluate on another day. More often than not, you end up overcoming the challenge, learning from it, and moving on to improve in whatever it is you had struggled with.
I am Enough
This is quite simple, yet quite powerful. In the world of social media, it is so hard to not fall into the cycle of comparison. I write this phrase down whenever I set out to accomplish a big goal. I want to remind myself that, even on my worst day, I am exactly where I’m supposed to be. I am who I am, and that is enough. This has helped me shake any negativity sent my way, and redirect my mindset to a more positive outlook.
Excellence, Not Perfection
When you strive for perfection, you are bound to fall short. I’ve learned this through both my gymnastics training and in my personal life. However, striving for excellence allows a goal to feel more achievable. Yes, you want to be the best, or achieve greatness in whatever you’ve set your mind to, but perfection is unrealistic. Knowing this helps me find balance in pursuing passions both professionally and personally.
