Do you feel like you’re chasing after the ever elusive work-life balance? Even under ideal job circumstances, I find that when you work non-traditional hours (hi entrepreneurs!), making time for the things you love and your loved ones can be a delicate balancing act. Those early mornings to late hours aren’t exactly conducive to maintaining a life-work equilibrium. And, in a world where we find ourselves “always on,” is it really possible to achieve an ideal balance? One of my more recent intentions was to make time for the things I love, so adopting one (or all) of these tips may help you find your healthier balance!
Tip #1. Set Boundaries
Even if you have the most demanding schedule, take advantage of your slower times to set boundaries. This is something I’m still learning to do myself, but, what I have learned, is that when you do start setting them, people respect them.
Tip #2. Build a Routine
This is particularly helpful for me if I feel that my friendships are taking a backseat due to travel or a hectic work week. I always make sure to build in ways to stay connected with my loved ones. It’s so easy to video call every day–it even makes those long work or travel stretches seem a little less challenging!
Tip #3. Start with Micro Actions
So maybe your schedule is so busy that it doesn’t allow for, let’s say, a 90-minute yoga class, but can you do 10-minutes of stretching? Or, maybe you set a reminder to make sure to stay hydrated and drink that glass of water! These might not seem like much, but when you add them up, you’ve almost dedicated just enough time to yourself throughout the day.
I know I definitely do not find a work-life balance all the time, but if you are more mindful to create more time and space for yourself, that’s really what matters most!
XOXO,
